"Definite winner- wish I had known about this earlier on (especially for my first who had bad colic- I think it would have really helped!!)".... - Tester from Baby Sensory Salisbury
“The birth of our weighted blanket started when a nursing Sister who runs a private baby clinic asked us to make a weighted blanket to help babies sleep. After trying different mediums we had a micro biologist test them on their new baby and she advised us in which direction to go re the filling.
Then an occupational therapist who had just completed a book called “Baby Sense” in which she advised mothers to use a weighted blanket for babies who would not settle. She had just had another baby and she tested the weight and found it perfect for her child. She asked for 12 samples and had Mothers test the blanket out and fill in a questionnaire as to when and how the blanket worked. The results were fantastic. At that time the blanket weighed 650grams. Every baby is niggly at some time in their baby hood and besides that we all like to feel cuddled and that is where this blanket comes in. The occupational therapists explained that when babies used to lie on their tummy’s there was pressure on their torso which comforted them and made them calm so by putting the weighted blanket on top of babies torso it does the same thing.“ quote from Yvonne Romyn weighted baby blanket product designer, and midwife of 15 years.
New Idea?
Sleepyhead Weighted Baby Blanket is a not a new idea in assisting babies go to sleep by using weight across the torso; how many of us have rested a hand across our babies chest to assist them to sleep? The feeling of being cuddled, the feeling of containment, the feeling of security is what the baby needs to get to sleep – Sleepyhead Weighted Baby Blanket can offer that.
“…Evie seemed to settle as soon as we put the blanket on her as I think she still thought I was holding her. It isn’t too heavy and the size of the blanket is good. It washes really well also.” - Tester from theBabywebsite.com
Age range
Blanket is suitable up to the age of nine months, but it does vary from baby to baby, please remember the size of the blanket. Those under four months should be monitored to make sure that the breathing of the baby is not hampered in any way by use of the blanket.
"Douglas started using the weighted blanket at about 4 months when he was rolling over. He was very settled when asleep in my arms or snuggled close to me with my hand on his tummy but he would only settle for short periods in his cot by himself. The blanket has proved to be brilliant! Not only did it keep him calm it also helped provide some resistance to him rolling over and getting frustrated at being on his front! The pressure on his abdomen appeared to cause an ease to any discomfort. We've recently been away on holiday and it was 'an essential' on the packing list! Even in the heat it still proved to be useful. I was worried that it would keep him too warm but it didn't appear to. The small compartments are also great as there is no sound to wake the sleeping baby as the blanket moves! Phew!!!)".... - Tester from Baby Sensory Salisbury
How to use the blanket
On cold days place the blanket between the parent and baby, maybe during feeding. This warms the blanket to body temperature and can then be used to cover the baby’s torso whilst sleeping. If you require a cooled blanket, place the blanket in a plastic bag and place in the freezer until the blanket has cooled.

QUOTES:
"The blanket is really good".... - Tester from Baby Sensory Sherfield English Romsey
"...I think that he would have loved it as a baby as he enjoyed being swaddled - however as the weather is too hot now, the blanket is fantastic as the weight gives him a feeling of security whilst it is nice and cool. It has made a big difference to his sleep and we are finally getting a few decent hours at night. I have washed the blanket a few times and it is really easy to use - just like a pillow case really."
